Welcome to Safe Homes, where compassion meets dedication in supporting the most vulnerable members of our community. For over 50 years, our Enhanced Family Foster Care (EFFC) program has been a lifeline for children who have faced unimaginable challenges. These children, often victims of neglect and abuse, find solace and safety in the temporary homes we provide. Our committed staff and certified foster parents work tirelessly to meet each child’s unique needs, offering them the care, stability, and emotional support they deserve. While we focus on helping these children heal, we also offer critical services to their birth families, ensuring that reunification is possible only when a healthy and safe environment is established. For those who cannot return to their birth families, we pursue adoption, ensuring every child finds a loving, permanent home.
Beyond foster care, Safe Homes is dedicated to empowering adults with developmental disabilities through our Residential Services. Our person-centered approach, rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), supports individuals in gaining independence and thriving within their communities. We cater to a wide range of needs, including complex medical and behavioral challenges, and are committed to adapting our services as individuals’ needs evolve. At Safe Homes, our mission is to provide a safe, engaging environment where every individual, regardless of age or ability, can flourish and live with dignity. Whether through our foster care, adoption services, or residential programs, we are steadfast in our commitment to creating safe, nurturing spaces for all.
For over 50 years, our Enhanced Family Foster Care (EFFC) program has been providing temporary homes to children whose families are unable to care for them. All of the children who come into our care have a history of trauma, suffered some level of neglect, emotional, physical or sexual abuse, are removed from their homes and placed in an unfamiliar environment. The goal of our devoted staff is to help each child overcome the trauma they have faced by meeting each child’s unique needs for social work, educational assistance, clinical and mental health services. Our certified and highly trained foster parents provide each child with a safe, nurturing environment and give them the guidance needed to help achieve their optimal level of growth and development. We ensure that every child who comes to us knows their safety and well-being is our primary goal and we are focused on connecting each child with family, safely and for the long-term. While the children remain in secure temporary homes, we provide their birth families with services such as parenting skills training, mental health services and reunification only once a healthy environment can be established. We also strive to find a healthy permanent home for the children who are unable to reunite with their birth parents through adoption.
The experienced and caring teams at Cardinal McCloskey provide person-centered supports and services, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for individuals to live and thrive in neighborhoods throughout Westchester, the Bronx and Rockland. Our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services help individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities meet their needs, gain independent living skills, and reach their goals. Community Inclusion is encouraged as part of our work to empower individuals to engage in their community. Individuals with a variety of needs can be supported, including those with complex medical or behavioral challenges. We also support individuals as their needs change over time and seek to help our residents remain in the comfort of their home as they age.
Our Adoption Services program has been consistently recognized as one of the leading achievers and preferred providers in the New York City area. The primary goal is the safety of our children, although we always strive to keep each family unit together. Unfortunately, there are situations where it is impossible for a child to remain with or return to their birth parents. In these very sad situations, our adoption unit social workers are dedicated to working with and supporting our families to ensure loving and stable permanent homes are secured for their children. While we do not facilitate private adoptions, our adoption services are intended to help children in foster care connect with permanent families. If you are interested in adopting a child, you must first become a foster parent through Cardinal McCloskey Community Services.
